A Family Tradition

Traditions are usually formed accidentally. Most people don't say, "I want to have a tradition" and set forth making it happen. My sister Teresa started a very intentional tradition that has continued now for eleven years. It has been the only consistent thing that has happened every year, for eleven years. We have had an annual pumpkin carving contest, complete with a pumpkin, every year since 2003. This year, I had the honor of hosting the pumpkin carving contest at my house. We had a blast, just like all of the years before. Looking through the pictures from the last eleven years, it hit me just how quickly the children are growing. My children cannot remember a time before the pumpkin carving tradition, and they look forward to it every year. For your viewing pleasure, a peek inside our family tradition.
